The 4th Annual Smart Smiles 5K held at
Mariners’ Museum Park in Newport News, VA on Saturday morning, August 20, 2011. The race event benefited the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula. The race itself was conducted and results were generated by the Peninsula Track Club. Conditions at race time were partly cloudy with temperatures around 80.
211 runners entered the 5K (up from 154 in 2010) with 198 completing the
race (up from 137 in 2010). The race started and ended at Mariners’
Museum Park across from Warwick High School. The course followed a road through the park and back to River Road, then across Lion’s Bridge to a turnaround and back. The course was accuratly measured, but is not a
USATF certified 5K course. The course was followed correctly by the
runners.
