The 3rd Annual Smart Smiles 5K held at Mariners’ Museum Park in Newport News, VA on Saturday morning, August 21, 2010. The race event benefited the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula. The race itself was conducted and results were generated by the Peninsula Track Club. Conditions at race time were sunny and very
humid with temperatures in the upper 70s.154 runners entered the 5K (down from 203 in 2009) with 137 completing in the race (down from 185 in 2009). The race started and ended at Mariners’ Museum Park across from Warwick High School. The course followed a road through the park and back to River Road, then across Lion’s Bridge to a turnaround and back. The course was accuratly measured, but is not a USATF certified 5K course. The course was followed correctly by the runners.
