Here are some locally-based groups that organize group runs for training and socializing.
Hampton Roads Runners is a very active group with over 700 members on Facebook. “Our mission is to promote running in the Hampton Roads community.” (It is a closed group on Facebook, so you must request an invitation before you can post on it.)
TEAM Williamsburg is an up and coming club that organizes weekly runs for all paces in the Williamsburg and western Newport News area. “This group is founded on a simple premise: Like attracts like. Want to improve? Train with runners who are faster than you are. Train with people who can inspire you. Train with people with more experience than you have. Become who and what you associate with.” Check them out on their Facebook page, with over 100 members and growing.

The Peninsula Road Runners are a meet-up group that organize weekly runs and track work outs. “Hello we are simply people that like to run. We simply want to promote running as a sport and a healthy activity for our community.” Connect to them on Facebook, too.
Point 2 Running Company serves all types of walkers and runners. They organize a weekly Saturday morning long run where participants run anywhere from 3 miles to 10+ miles, depending on the individuals running goals. The locations rotate between: Noland Trail, Newport News Park, Matteson Trail, Yorktown Battlefields, and the Kiln Creek Fitness Trail. “New runners come out every week so whether you run a lot or are just getting started we would love for you to join us!” As always, complimentary water and Gatorade is provided. Register at their Facebook page to receive a weekly email with time, location, and details of the upcoming run.
Virginia Tidewater Trail Runners (VTT) . Running, biking, walking, jogging in Virginia’s Tidewater Country. Open to beginning & experienced runners and all levels in between. We meet every Saturday morning at 8am for a “coffee run” – distances vary, and thermos of coffee optional!
Keep current with Flat-Out Events on their Facebook page. They host a Wednesday evening group run in Newport News City Center. “We typically meet at the Flat-Out Office, 11843 Canon Blvd.Suite B, Newport News, Va.”
