If this is the first time you have visited our web site or are a new member, welcome to our club! We currently have more than 600 members and serve the Virginia Peninsula and surrounding communities. Our goal is to promote and encourage long distance running and educate the public to its benefits. The PTC is involved in over 35 events annually, ranging from 5Ks to half marathons. Your membership dues help pay the upkeep of our equipment, the printing of this publication 12 times a year, social activities such as our General Membership Meetings and annual Potluck Awards Banquet, and other costs incurred in operating a nonprofit organization.

Our running club officers are all volunteers, and we encourage you to get involved. You'll find it a lot of fun and very rewarding. Welcome again and have a safe and healthy running season!

PTC Mission Statement

This site imparts running information in conjunction with the PTC mission.

It exposes first time and experienced marathon candidates to training techniques that will make their marathon experience more postive, less stressful and with fewer injuries.

The programs included in these pages are intended to bolster confidence of beginning runners and improve the performance of experience marathon candidates.

The PTC suggests that intervals can make any runner faster if done in a consistent and disciplined manner. Doing Intervals at the track ensures that runners do speedwork on a stable surface, over a known distance. Additional benefits are derived when runners attend with other runners also participate by providing support, encouragement, and sharing a common experience.

While the PTC encourages speedwork to make runners faster, it also acknowledges that there is such a thing as too much speedwork. Runners engaging in speed workouts commonly called intervals should not do more than two speed workouts or interval sessions to prevent injury. PTC coached speed sessions will be announced in the club's newsletter and commonly run between March and November of most years. There are interval sessions held in Williamsburg with the Colonial Road Runners as well and their link may be found on the navigation pannel on the main page.
