  • Williamsburg runner breaks age group record at Yorktown 10-mile run

    By Rick Platt, Virginia Gazette

William & Mary men’s cross country coach Forest Braden was the only runner to break an age group record last Saturday at the 28th annual Yorktown Battlefield 10-mile run, and the connection with the current and former men’s 35-39 record holders went clear across the country to UCLA, on the opposite side of the country.

  • Tidewater Striders Scholarship 5K

Fellow PTC Runners & Volunteers, next Tuesday, 27 July, is the Tidewater Striders Scholarship 5K. We have a great relationship with the Striders, including our Hampton Roads Super Grand Prix competition and our PTC-TS-CRR competitions. In an effort to support each club’s Scholarship races please consider registering for the TS Scholarship 5K. I believe through this reciprocal support we’ll see more Tidewater Striders members at our next PTC Joe & Sue Moore Memorial Scholarship 5K. I’m registered for the TS race and hope to see some of you there! https://runsignup.com/Race/VA/VirginiaBeach/TidewaterStridersSummerSeries?rsus=100-200-e65a8ccd-c722-4598-94e7-13a6ce352d12&remMeAttempt=

  • PTC Summer Series

With Memorial Day weekend behind us we now look forward to the PTC Summer Series races.

The series begins on the evening of Tuesday, 15 June, with the Trailzilla Fast 5K, followed two weeks later on the evening of Tuesday, 29 June, with the Trailzilla Feel Good 4-Miler, and then, on Saturday morning, 10 July, the Trailzilla Joe-zilla 5-Miler. All 3 races will be held at Sandy Bottom Nature Park in Hampton.

On the evening of Tuesday, 3 August, we’ll host the Tom Ray Memorial Predict Your Time 5-Miler (no GPS, watched, music… nothing that can be used to measure distance, pace, or tempo). This one is held at the Newport News Park Bikeway… the fasted doesn’t necessarily win…

Next we’ll go to Williamsburg on the evening of Tuesday, 10 August, for the Lake Matoaka 4.3-Mile Trail Challenge… its a great race for a PR (if you’ve never run a 4.3-mile race).

Finally we’ll wrap up our Summer Series on the evening of Tuesday, 17 August, with the Swamp Bridge 5K at Picnic Area #3 at Newport News Park.

We hope to see all of you at these fun races!
