Below are the award winners for the 11th Annual 10-Mile Run for the HEART held on the tour roads of the Yorktown Battlefield on Saturday morning, February 11, 2023. The race was sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 5480 with proceeds benefiting the American Heart Association. The 2023 edition of the 10-Mile Run for the Heart was held under somewhat chilly running conditions: sunny to partly cloudy with a cool breeze and a temperature of 44 degrees at race start. 158 runners entered the 10-Mile Run for the Heart with 134 completing the 10 Mile course on the scenic Yorktown Battlefield. The course started and finished near Surrender Field on the Yorktown Battlefield. The 10 Mile course is USATF certified #VA23002RT and was run correctly by the runners.No fewer than eight new course age group records for the 10-Mile Run for the Heart were set today with several runners breaking records they had set in previous years while other records dating back to the first running of the 10-Mile Run for the Heart also fell.Race winner and 1st Male Overall, Roger Hopper, 32 of Chesapeake VA bettered the age group record for Men 30-34 with a time of 55:49, improving on the time of 56:41 which Roger himself had set in 2021.2nd Male Overall, Mark Tompkins, 47 of Williamsburg VA improved on the age group record for Men 45-49 with a time of 58:07, improving on the time of 58:15 that Mark himself had set last year in 2022.1st Woman Overall, Bethany Spector, 33 of Virginia Beach VA bettered the age group record for Women 30-34 with a time of 1:05:06, improving on the time of 1:08:05 that Bethany herself set in 2020.2nd Woman Overall, Catherine Moore, 49 of Ashland VA set a new age group record for Women 45-49 with a time of 1:08:14 besting the time of 1:12:06 set by Andrea Leber in 2013.3rd Woman Overall, Deelyn Robinson, 57 of Williamsburg VA set a new age group record for Women 55-59 with a time of 1:13:44 eclipsing time of 1:20:05 set by Karla Havens in 2019.For Men 65-69, Pete Gibson, 66 of Murfreesboro NC set a new age group record with a time of 1:14:42 bettering the previous mark of 1:15:25 set by Jim Christol in 2013.For Men 70-74, Bill Hart, 73 of Virginia Beach VA set a new age group record with a time of 1:18:07 improving on the time of 1:19:40 set by Dale Abrahamson in 2021.Finally for Women 65-69, Carol Hansen-Vessa, 68 of Reston VA set an age group record with a time of 1:34:29 beating the record of 1:35:19 set by Barbara Biasi in 2014.
