The 7th Annual Smart Smiles 5K was held at Mariners’ Museum Park in Newport News, VA on Saturday morning, August 16, 2014. The race event benefited the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula. The race itself was conducted and results were generated by the Peninsula Track Club. Conditions at race time were mostly sunny and humid with temperatures in the mid 70s.
A total 305 runners entered the 5K (down from the record number of 360 in 2013) with 269 completing the race (down from 332 in 2013). The race started and ended at Mariners’ Museum Park across from Warwick High School. The course followed a road through the park and back to River Road, then across Lion’s Bridge to a turnaround and back. The course was accuratly measured, but is not a USATF certified 5K course. The course was followed correctly by the runners.
