The Lincoln Presidential Half-Marathon has become the kickoff for the road racing season in Springfield, but this year the April 4 race through the streets of Springfield will have a lot more significance.
The race has been selected by the Road Runners Club of America as the Regional-Central Championship Half-Marathon. It is one of four regional championship sites nationally for the 13.1-mile half-marathon distance.
The Springfield Road Runners Club organizes the race. Since 1958, the Road Runners Club of America has awarded championship events through a competitive bidding process at the national, regional and state level to RRCA member clubs to promote the sport of distance running.
The RRCA Championship Event Series is the largest grassroots organized running series in the United States, attracting more than 320,000 runners each year.
Online registration and information about the Lincoln Presidential Half-Marathon can be found at runabe.net.
