June-July Update

Fellow runners and PTC members,

I hope you are well and staying active.

Your PTC Board of Directors continues to meet virtually each month to stay up to date on issues affecting our club and races.
Unfortunately the news for July is not good… because the City of Hampton canceled all organized events/activities through August, we had to cancel the 2020 Trailzilla Joe-zilla 5-miler scheduled for 11 July. We also decided to postpone the PTC Picnic, also originally scheduled for 11 July after the Joe-zilla, due to concerns about group size and potluck food. The picnic will now be held 26 September.

We will not be publishing the “On Your Mark” newsletter in June… look for the next issue to be released in July.

We learned this week that the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown has canceled this year’s Coast Guard Day 5K, originally scheduled for 25 July, so there are no “live” PTC events in July.
The Rangers at Sandy Bottom Nature Park have allowed us to mark a 5K course (out and back) that can be used to run the Trailzilla Feel-Good Virtual 5K. Please practice proper social distancing (as prescribed by state guidelines at the time you run it) and enjoy the course. If you have registered, or plan to, you can submit your virtual 5K time through 30 June.

I’m targeting Wednesday, 8 July, for our first PTC Pub Run. Look for updates once I’ve confirmed with Oozlefinch Craft Brewery at Fort Monroe. It will be a casual evening run, starting at 6 PM, followed by socializing (within existing guidelines at the time), and pay-as-you-go beverages and a food truck. Let’s hope the weather cooperates!

Please stay tuned for updates to all of our PTC activities.

I hope to see you at the races soon!
