Below and attached are the results for the 2021 Spring Fever 5K held on the trails in Sandy Bottom Nature Park in Hampton, VA on Saturday morning, March 20, 2021. The race was sponsored by the Peninsula Track Club and is the second live road race held by the club in 2021. The course was an out-and-back starting and finishing near the Sandy Bottom Headquarters. The 5K course was measured accurately and run correctly but is not USATF certified.
This first-time 5K was held under cold but good running conditions; sunny and cold with a strong north-east breeze and a temperature of 43 degrees (36 degrees wind chill) at race start. 64 runners entered the live 5K event with 45 completing the 5K course through scenic Sandy Bottom.
Runners were spread out in 3 waves of no more than 25 runners each and were instructed to adhere to Covid-19 guidelines during the event including mask wearing at all times while not running. Social distancing and masking guidelines were followed for this completely outdoor event.
The for both the men and women, runners who started in the 3rd wave ran faster overall times then the second place finishers who started in the 1st wave. For the men, Steven Kast, 56 of Yorktown VA finished first with a time of 19:10 (6:11 per mile) besting second place Logan St. John, 26 of Williamsburg VA who had a time of 20:59. Third place went to Brian Hollifield, 49 of Newport News VA.
For the women, first place went to Connie Glueck, 56 of Williamsburg VA with a time of 24:07 (7:46 per mile). In second place was Susan Hagel, 47 of Norfolk VA with a time of 25:30 followed by Jennifer Cornette, 49 of Norfolk VA finishing third in 25:58.
