    Above are the award winners for the 23rd Annual Riverside Rehab Institute 5K By the Bay held at the Riverside Rehabilitation Institute in Newport News on Saturday morning, May 4, 2013, at 9AM. The race was organized by the Riverside Rehabilitation Institute with proceeds benefitting the Riverside Rehabilitation Institute Giving Fund. Results and finish line were provided by the Peninsula Track Club.

    A total of 589 runners and walkers were registered in two races: approximately 50 entrants participated in the 1 Mile Fun Run/Roll/Walk, and the remainder in the 5K event. 473 finished the 5k Run/Walk. Awards were given to the top 3 male and female runners, the top 3 male and female runners in age group categories, the top 3 male and female walkers, the top 3 male and female Riverside Rehab Institute runners, and the top 3 male and female Riverside Rehab Institute walkers. The weather at race time was cloudy and in the upper 50’s.

    Tabb5K Age Group Winners

    Below are the award winners for the 5th Annual Tabb High School May Day 5K held on the roads adjacent to Tabb High School in York County. The race was held on Saturday morning, April 27, 2013. Proceeds support the Tabb High School Track Team.

    Conditions at race time were perfect for running, clear and sunny with temperatures in the upper 50s and a slight breeze. The course was accurately measured, but is not USATF certified.

    298 runners entered the 5K (down from the record 309 in 2012) with 266 runners completing the course (down from 290 in 2012).

    The race officiating and results were done by the Peninsula Track Club.

    A fast field led the 5K runners. Winning the May Day 5K was Tabb High School Alumnus and Virginia Tech runner Will Mulherin, 23 of Yorktown, VA in a time of 15:42. Will Mulherin is a 3-time ACC Champion in the 5000m and 2-time NCAA All-American in cross country who has completed his NCAA eligibility. While slower than his top times (Will Mulherin has a 5K PR of 13:41), the time was good for a course record. Following Mulherin was Victor Fleming, 34 of Smithfield, VA with a time of 16:36. Third was
    Baron Kieffer, 16 of Yorktown, VA in a time of 16:51. The fourth place male was Todd Kessler, 30 of Newport News, VA with a time of 17:18, good for 1st male, 30-34.

    The women were lead by Virginia Peninsula Road Running Hall of Fame member Jennifer Quarles, 41 of Williamsburg in a time of 19:33 followed by Mercedes Castillo-D’Amico, 55 of Newport News, VA in 20:06. Laura Craig, 22 of Yorktown, VA rounded out the top three women with a time of 23:06.
