The 5th Annual Gloucester 8K\u00a0Run and 3K Run\/Walk held on the roads around Gloucester High School in\u00a0Gloucester, VA. Awards in the 8K went to the top 3 men and women overall\u00a0and the top 3 in each age group. Awards were also given for the top 3\u00a0men and women in the 3K. The race was held on Saturday morning, February\u00a027, 2016 after a two week delay due to wether conditions on the original\u00a0race date of February 13. Proceeds support the Gloucester County\u00a0Educational Foundation. The race itself was conducted by the Peninsula\u00a0Track Club.<\/p>\n

At race time the temperature was 40 with a cold breeze and clear, sunny
\nskies.<\/p>\n

146 runners and walkers signed up with 80 in the 8K and 66 in the 3K. A
\ntotal of 113 runners\/walkers completed the events, with 66 finishers in
\nthe 8K and 47 finishers in the 3K. The races were held simultaneously
\nwith the same start and finish – the 3K participants completed the
\ninitial out and back 3K loop while the 8K runners went past Gloucester
\nHigh School to do a different 5K loop that made up the 8K course. The
\ncourses are accurately measured but are not USATF certified.<\/p>\n

For the Gloucester 8K, Ryan Carroll, 33 of Portsmouth set a new 8K course
\nrecord by over 2 minutes with a time of 26:31(5:20 pace) breaking the
\nprevious course record held by Brian Crow of Richmond (28:34) set in
\n2012, the first year of Gloucester 8K.<\/p>\n
