\n\t\t\t\t3M – Drew Midland\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\nThe 4th Annual Yorktown Independence Day 8K Run held on the Tour Roads of the historic Yorktown Battlefield in\u00a0Yorktown, VA on Wednesday morning, July 4, 2012. The race was part of the Annual Yorktown 4th of July festivities. The race event was organized and directed by Happy Pace Races. The race itself was conducted and results were generated by the Peninsula Track Club. Conditions at race time were warm and humid and partly cloudy. Temperature at race time was around 80.The 8K race course starts on the Tour Roads near the Route 17 overpass, heads in the direction of George Washington’s Headquarters, then follows
\nthe Tour Road over the bridge crossing back over Route 17 before turning right onto a section of trails that return the runners to Surrender Fieldand the finish of the 8K.<\/p>\n
For the second year in a row a new course record for men was set this year. Overall winner, Caleb Doan, 22 of Virginia Beach set a new course record for the 8K with a time of 25:38 breaking the mark set by John Holt in 2011 of 26:08. Caleb was in fact the 2nd place finisher in 2011 (26:21) bettering his time by 43 seconds this year.<\/p>\n
Age group records fell as well with 9 new age group records being set (5 for the men, 4 for the women)<\/p>\n

\nMen 35-39 by Mark Tompkins, 36 of Williamsburg (27:59)
\nMen 40-44 by Mike Nestor, 42 of Virginia Beach (29:50)
\nMen 55-59 by Henry Gleisburg, 55 of Yorktown (31:11)
\nMen 60-64 by Rick Platt, 61 of Williamsburg (33:41)
\nWomen 25-29 by Crystal Witte, 27 of Yorktown (32:49)
\nWomen 50-54 by Mercedes Castillo-D’Amico, 54 of Newport News (33:38)
\nWomen 15-19 by Rachel Rabbitt, 17 of Yorktown (34:13)
\nWomen 45-49 by Connie Glueck, 48 of Williamsburg (35:53)<\/p>\n
459 runners entered the 8K (down from the record 496 in 2011) with 426 runners completing the 8K (down from 458 in 2011) within the one and a
\nhalf hour time limit.<\/p>\n
The Yorktown Independence Day 8K is the sixth race in the 12 race Peninsula Track Club Grand Prix Series.<\/p>\n
The 8K course has been measured accuratly, but is not USATF certified at this time.
