Christin HOffstadt\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>Below are the award winners for the 36th Annual Mulberry Island Half<br \/>\nMarathon &amp; 5K held at Fort Eustis on Saturday morning, September 16,<br \/>\n2017.\u00a0 The race was sponsored by the Fort Eustis MWR.\u00a0\u00a0 The Mulberry<br \/>\nIsland Half Marathon is the 9th and longest race of the 12-race 2017<br \/>\nPeninsula Track Club Grand Prix. It was also one of the fifteen races in<br \/>\nthe Hampton Roads Super Grand Prix put on jointly by the Tidewater<br \/>\nStriders, Colonial Road Runners and Peninsula Track Club.<\/p>\n<p>Both courses start and finish near Anderson Fieldhouse on Fort Eustis.<br \/>\nConditions for both races were sunny and humid and temperatures in the<br \/>\nmid-70s.<\/p>\n<p>The Half Marathon course is USATF certified (VA14019RT).\u00a0 The 5K course<br \/>\nreturned to the course ran in 2015 and is USATF certified (VA14014RT).<\/p>\n<p>Finish line management and results services were provided by the<br \/>\nPeninsula Track Club.\u00a0 The results can also be viewed on the PTC website<br \/>\nat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peninsulatrackclub.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.peninsulatrackclub.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 298 runners entered the races, 219 in the Half Marathon and 79<br \/>\nin the 5K with 187 runners completing the Half Marathon and 78 runners<br \/>\ncompleted the 5K.<\/p>\n<p>In the Half Marathon, the 1st Male was Joe Kane, 30 of Alexandria, VA<br \/>\nwith a time of 1:22:54 (6:20 pace).\u00a0 2nd Male was John Piggott, 52 of<br \/>\nWilliamsburg, VA with a time of 1:27:09.\u00a0 3rd Male went to Doug<br \/>\nFernandez, 57 of Richmond, VA in 1:27:18.<\/p>\n<p>For the Women in the Half Marathon, 1st place went to Sarah Heins, 21 of<br \/>\nWilmington, DE with a time of 1:24:41 (6:28 pace) and was in fact the<br \/>\nsecond runner across the finish line.\u00a0 2nd Place for the Woman went to<br \/>\nTressas Breindel, 39 of Richmond, VA in 1:29:18 with 3rd place going to<br \/>\nChristin Hoffstadt, 26 of Norfolk, VA in 1:30:50.<\/p>\n<p>In the 5K, 1st Place Overall for the men was Victor Flemming, 38 of<br \/>\nSmithfield, VA with a time of 16:30 (5:19 pace).\u00a0 2nd place went to<br \/>\nStacin Martin, 48 of Chesapeake, VA with a time of 17:54 followed by<br \/>\nRaphael Kimanga, 35 of Fort Eustis, VA who finished in 18:11.<\/p>\n<p>For the Women in the 5K, Ashley Chitwood, 20 of Dodgeville, WI was 1st<br \/>\nWoman Overall with a time of 23:39 followed by Angelica Reese, 34 of<br \/>\nNewport News, VA with a time of 23:46.\u00a0\u00a0 3rd Woman Overall was Leslie<br \/>\nSampedro, 35 wiht a time of 23:50.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">36th Annual MULBERRY ISLAND HALF-MARATHON and 5K RUNS<br \/>\nAnderson Fieldhouse, Ft.
