Below are the award winners for the 38th Annual Mulberry Island Half
\nMarathon & 5K held at Fort Eustis on Saturday morning, September 14,
\n2019.\u00a0 The race was sponsored by the Fort Eustis MWR.\u00a0\u00a0 The Mulberry
\nIsland Half Marathon is the 9th and longest race of the 12-race 2019
\nPeninsula Track Club Grand Prix. It was also one of the fifteen races in
\nthe Hampton Roads Super Grand Prix put on jointly by the Tidewater
\nStriders, Colonial Road Runners and Peninsula Track Club.<\/p>\n

Both courses start and finish near Anderson Fieldhouse on Fort Eustis.
\nConditions for both races were cloudy – turning partly sunny with a
\ntemperature of 73 at the race start.<\/p>\n

The Half Marathon course is USATF certified (VA14019RT).\u00a0 The 5K course
\nreturned to the course ran in 2015 and is USATF certified (VA14014RT).<\/p>\n

Finish line management and results services were provided by the
\nPeninsula Track Club.\u00a0 The results can also be viewed on the PTC website
\nat www.peninsulatrackclub.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A total of 216 runners entered the races, 166 in the Half Marathon and 50
\nin the 5K with 142 runners completing the Half Marathon and 50 runners
\ncompleting the 5K.<\/p>\n

In the Half Marathon, the 1st Male was Brendan Jones, 31 of Morgantown,
\nWV with a time of 1:19:51 (6:06 minute pace).\u00a0 2nd Male was Chuck Inman,
\n47 of Chesapeake, VA with a time of 1:21:30.\u00a0 3rd Male went to Ilio
\nSanchez, 22 of West Palm Beach, FL in 1:22:21.<\/p>\n

For the Women in the Half Marathon, 1st place went to Mollie Sweet, 33 of
\nVirginia Beach, VA with a time of 1:30:23 (6:54 pace).\u00a0 2nd Place for the
\nWoman went to Emily Honeycutt, 28 of Newport News, VA in 1:31:34 with 3rd<\/span>
\n place going to Brooke Gainey, 31 of Newport News, VA<\/span> in 1:37:38.<\/p>\n

In the 5K, 1st Place Overall for the men was Victor Flemming, 40 of
\nSmithfield, VA with a time of 16:47 (5:24 minute pace).\u00a0 2nd place went
\nto James Dickerson, 19 of Long Beach, MS with a time of 19:29 followed by
\nAlexander Osburn, 22 of St. Leonard, MD<\/span> who finished in 21:43.<\/p>\n

For the Women in the 5K, Riley Bennett, 11 of Newport News, VA was 1st
\nWoman Overall with a time of 25:08 followed by Genevieve Bennett, 40 of
\nWilliamsburg, VA with a time of 25:21.\u00a0\u00a0 3rd Woman Overall was Abby Voss,
\n35 of Williamsburg, VA with a time of 25:45.<\/p>\n
