Below and attached are the award winners for the 17th ANNUAL SMART SMILES 5K held at the Mariners’ Museum on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The race was sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of the Virginia Peninsula. The Smart Smiles 5K is also the 7th race of the 11-race 2024 Peninsula Track Club Grand Prix.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Due to the construction on Lion’s Bridge, the Smart Smiles 5K used a revised course starting at the CNU Golf practice facility next to the Mariner’s Museum on Museum Drive. Runners and Walkers went from there out to the sidewalk next to Warwick Blvd and proceeded down to Warwick Field where the Smart Smiles 5K is normally held. After a turn-around on Boundary Road, participants returned via the same route to finish in front of the CNU Golf practice facility. The course was accurately measured and run correctly by the runners but is not USATF certified since it is likely to be a one-off once the construction on the original course using Lion’s Bridge is complete.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The 2024 edition of the Smart Smiles 5K was held under great running conditions for mid-August; partly cloudy with a slight breeze and a temperature of 74 at race start. 196 runners and walkers entered the 5K event with 172 completing 5K course.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Again, this year there were team competitions using the combined times of the Top 3 in each team.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Finish line and results services were provided by the Peninsula Track Club.<\/div>\n

Due to the construction happening on Lion’s Bridge road and subsequent damage caused to Boundary Rd. We have looked into moving the racecourse inside the Mariner’s Museum. We have mapped a route that needs to be verified by the track club and hoped you could check it out this week and get precise measurements. This way we can be sure to update the committee and begin marketing by Friday, April 12.<\/div>\n

I have attached a copy of the Google Maps route. We propose the route start at the first parking lot on Museum Dr. and turn around at the intersection of Museum Parkway and Country Club Rd.<\/div>\n
