Below are the award winners for the 2026 PTC New Year’s Day 5K<\/strong> held in Newport News Park, Newport News, VA on Thursday morning, January 1, 2026. The race was sponsored by the Peninsula Track Club with proceeds benefiting York High School Cross-country\/Track & Field teams who provided race coordination and event volunteers.<\/div>\n
The course for the New Year’s Day 5K in Newport News Park consisted of a triple out-and-back starting at the Ranger Station on Constitution Avenue, running along the length of Constitution Avenue (two of the out-and-backs) with an out-and-back section on Stable Road. The 5K course is accurately measured but is not USATF certified at this time. The runners ran the course correctly as measured.<\/div>\n
Conditions at race time were partly cloudy with a gusty breeze and a temperature of 43 at race start dropping to 38 degrees by the end of the race. 138 runners entered the 5K race with 114 runners and walkers completing the 5K.<\/div>\n
The 2026 PTC New Years Day 5K saw three new records set for the Newport News Park 5K course.<\/div>\n
First Woman and second runner Overall, Emily Honeycutt, 34 of Newport News VA set a new age group record for Women 30-34 with a time of 19:04 beating the old record of 19:05 set by Bethany Spector in 2022.<\/div>\n
Ellen Davis, 65 of Mechanicsville VA set an age group record for Women 65-69 with a time of 26:25 beating the time of 27:52 set by Helen Worthington in 2019.<\/div>\n
Male Racewalker, David Mazary, 65 of Newport News VA set a new record in the Men’s Walk with a time of 35:35 beating the old record of 42:52 set by Rick Webb in 2023.<\/div>\n
Finish line and results services were provided by the Peninsula Track Club.<\/div>\n
