Self-Defense for Runners and Walkers
“Self-Defense for Runners and Walkers” is the topic of Dr. Brad Bennett, who will speak at the membership meeting of the Peninsula Track Club on April 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hampton Center for Health and Fitness.
Dr. Bennett is a retired Navy captain and trained as a physiologist and tactical medicine specialist in prehospital emergency medicine. During his Navy career he conducted biomedical requirements testing for numerous Navy and Marine Corps operational warfare communities in the areas of scuba diving, altitude, heat and cold physiology.
He started his distance running and martial arts adventure while in college in San Diego in the 1970s, starting with taekwondo instruction, Tai Chi Kwan, Marine Corps martial arts, and law enforcement self-defense and tactics. He continues today as the tactical hapkido martial arts black belt instructor at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center, Yorktown, Va. He also teaches the Conflict Continuum (self-defense) courses to active duty, retirees, dependents and federal employees, and to civilian community members.
