The 2015 Race for Hope 10K & 5K held on at the Mariners’ Museum Park in Newport News, VA. The race was held on Saturday, August 29, 2015.
The event was organized by Share HEART in Africa benefiting the children of Sierra Leone. The race itself was conducted and results were generated by the Peninsula Track Club. Conditions were clear and sunny with temperatures in the 70s. Both the 10K and 5K followed roads and paths within the Mariners’ Museum. The courses are not USATF certified. 300 runners entered the races (130 in the 10K and 170 in the 5K) 93 runners completed the 10K and 137 completed the 5K.
Notable performances include Ryan Carroll, 32 of Portsmouth VA who won both the 10K and 5K races: 33:47 in the 10K and 16:28 in the 5K. In the 10K, first woman was Jessica Riggs, 38 of Williamsburg VA with a time of 41:50 In the 5K, first woman was Kelly Rock, 15 of Chesapeake with a time of 20:57 Another notable performance was by Robert S White, 91 of Hampton VA with a time of 41:26 , good for 2nd Place for Men 70 & older.
