Below are the award winners for the 9th Annual Fast & Funky 5K (formerly
Transitions 5K) held on the Matteson Trail that circles The Hampton’s
Golf Course in Hampton, VA. The race was held on Saturday, August 10,
2018. The event was organized by and benefits the Transitions Family
Violence Services, dedicated to ending Domestic Violence. The race
itself was conducted and results were generated by the Peninsula Track
Club. At race time conditions were good for running, not very humid,
sunny with a breeze and a teperature of 75 at race start.
The 5K run followed the Matteson Trail and was run correctly by the
runners. This course is not USATF certified.
79 runners entered the 5K with 78 completing the 5K course.
For the men, the 1st Overall was Steven Kast, 54 of Poquoson, VA with a
time of 19:17 (6:12 per mile pace). 2nd Overall was Orlando Perez, 57 of
Newport News, VA finishing in 21:52. 3rd Male Overall was Matthew Cross,
17 of Portsmouth VA with a time of 23:08
For the women, 1st Woman Overall (and 4th finisher overall) was Ashley
Foretich, 14 or Yorktown, VA in 23:11 (7:27 per mile pace). Immediately
behind her was the 2nd Woman Overall, Sheila Scotti, 35 of Newport News
finishing with a time of 23:23. 3rd Woman Overall was Monika Caine, 43
of Valley City OH with a time of 23:23.

Proceeds benefit Transitions Family Violence Services whose mission is to build safe and healthy families by supporting healthy, violence free family life. Transitions is the sole provider of comprehensive domestic violence services in Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and co-provider for York County for over 40 years. The agency offers emergency shelter, hotline, children’s programming, legal advocacy, adult and child art therapy, support groups and a host of other services that prevent violence, save lives, and make the community more aware of domestic violence, its deleterious effects on the family.
