    Above are the award winners for the 4th Annual JLHR Race for a Better Place 5K & 8K. Awards went to the top 3 male and female runners overall and the top 3 in each age group. The races, sponsored by the Junior League of Hampton Roads, were held on Saturday morning, April 20, 2013 and was organized to raise awareness of female reproductive cancer and provide support services for women in Hampton Roads. The race itself was conducted and race results generated by the Peninsula Track Club.

    Held on the roads around the Mariners’ Museum in Newport News, the 5K is accurately measured but is not USATF certified. The 8K was in fact short, about 4.4 miles due to a last minute course change. Conditions at race time were perfect for running, cool and cloudy with a slight breeze and temperatures in the low 60s.

    A total of 156 runners entered the races (106 in the 5K, 50 in the 8K) with 121 completing the event (90 in the 5K and 31 in the 8K).

  • Gates 5K, April 13

    Above are the award winners for the 5th Annual T. S. Gates Memorial 5K. Awards went to the top 3 male and female runners overall and the top 3 in each age group. The race was held on Saturday morning, April 13, 2013 and was organized to raise awareness for Aplastic Anemia, Paroxsymal Nocturnal Hemoflobinuria and Myelodysplastic Syndrome. The race itself was conducted by the Peninsula Track Club.

    134 runners entered the 5K race (down from 135 in 2012) with 129 completing the course (up from 119 in 2012). The race started at Poquoson High School, followed a loop course on Odd Road and finished at the Poquoson Elementary School. The course is accurately measured but is not USATF certified. Conditions at race time were cool with a breeze, sunny with temperatures around 60.

    Above are the award winners for the 1st Annual Race Against the Odds 5K held on the trails of Sandy Bottom Nature Park in Hampton, VA on Saturday morning, March 23, 2013 The 5K race was held in memory of Nicholas Ferris and benefited “The Cure Starts Now”, a non-profit supporting the fight against Pediatric Brain Cancer.

    A total of 152 runners entered the event with 119 completing the 5K.
