Above are the award winners for the 4th Annual JLHR Race for a Better Place 5K & 8K. Awards went to the top 3 male and female runners overall and the top 3 in each age group. The races, sponsored by the Junior League of Hampton Roads, were held on Saturday morning, April 20, 2013 and was organized to raise awareness of female reproductive cancer and provide support services for women in Hampton Roads. The race itself was conducted and race results generated by the Peninsula Track Club.
Held on the roads around the Mariners’ Museum in Newport News, the 5K is accurately measured but is not USATF certified. The 8K was in fact short, about 4.4 miles due to a last minute course change. Conditions at race time were perfect for running, cool and cloudy with a slight breeze and temperatures in the low 60s.
A total of 156 runners entered the races (106 in the 5K, 50 in the 8K) with 121 completing the event (90 in the 5K and 31 in the 8K).
