Winners for the 6th Annual Smart Smiles 5K held at the Mariners’ Museum, Newport News, VA on Saturday morning, August 17, 2013. The race event benefited the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula. The race itself was conducted and results were generated by the Peninsula Track Club. Conditions at race time were cloudy, breezy and mild with temperatures in the lower 70s.A record 360 runners entered the 5K (up from 237 in 2012) with 332 completing the race (up from 216 in 2012). The race started and ended at Mariners’ Museum Park across from Warwick High School. The course followed a road through the park and back to River Road, then across Lion’s Bridge to a turnaround and back. The course was accuratly measured, but is not a USATF certified 5K course. The course was followed correctly by the runners.
