The 3rd Annual Chesty Puller Memorial Twin Bridge 10K Run held in the Town of West Point, VA on Saturday morning, June 26, 2010. The race honored the most decorated Marine in
history, Marine General Chesty Puller who lived in West Point, Virginia. Proceeds from the race benefits the West Point Historical Society for the
purpose of creating a West Point Historical Museum.The race itself was conducted and results were generated by the Peninsula Track Club. Conditions at race time were like mid-summer conditions,
mostly sunny and humid with a breeze and temperatures in the lower 80s.A record 185 runners entered the 10K (up from 107 in 2009 and 172 in 2008) with 159 runners completing the course (up from 99 in 2009). The
course looped through downtown West Point, passing the home of Chesty Puller, over the Mattaponi River Bridge into King & Queen County, then
back over that bridge, through downtown West Point, and continued for an out-and-back over the Pamunkey River Bridge into Eltham, then back again
over the bridge, finishing in West Point. The 10K course is USATF
Certified #VA-10031-RT and was followed correctly by the runners.Despite the heat, 5 new age group records were set. Race winner Ryan Speray, 19 of Gloucester set an age group record for Men 14-19 with a
time of 38:56. 2nd Male overall, Craig Hymes, 47 or Yorktown set a record for Men 45-49 with a time of 39:37. For the women, 1st Woman, Lauren Hite, 18, of Crozet, VA set the Women 15-19 age group record with
a time of 47:28. The Women’s 20-24 record was set be Meredith Woodard,
28 (APO, AP) with a time of 48:35. Finally Nancy Burleson, 61 of Spruce Pine, NC set the Women 60-64 age group record with a time of 1:01:31.
