Coronavirus procedures: Several things will change due to the Coronavirus, and requirements from James City County and the JCC Parks and Recreation.
1) There will be no access to the school as in past years, whether the gymnasium or rest rooms at the lower level. There will be several porta-potties available for the runners. The packet pickup and late registration will be at the main entrance in front of the school on the upper level (next to the parking lot). There is an overhang of the roof to protect from any possible rain. The porta-potties and the usual race start will be adjacent to that parking lot. The finish line will be at the usual location on the lower level, but runners will quickly move back up to the race registration area for refreshments and the modified awards ceremony.
2) Runners should wear masks while in the registration/packet pickup area, and for the porta-potties, and keep the proper 6-foot social distancing.
3) Although Virginia is back to Phase 3 (250-person limit for public events), the CRR will continue with multiple start waves, to ensure social distancing. Also due to the relatively narrow and out-and-back Powhatan Creek Trail course, and the possible wet bridges, it’s best to spread out the runners as much as possible, which is being done with two separate wave starts.
4) The first 5K wave start is at 8:30 a.m., and is for all men, both open men (ages 39-and-under) and Masters men (40-and-over), but not for the male race walkers.5) The second 5K wave start is at 8:35 a.m., and is for all women, both open women and Masters women, and also for all race walkers, male and female.Entries: $25 fee online, $30 late and race day.T-shirts guaranteed to all pre-registered runners.
