The 10K course started on Stable Road in Newport News Park, Newport News, VA. The course was on roads and trails within the park. Despite recent days of rain and cloudiness, Saturday cleared and was a good day for running. Partly cloudy skies, a breeze and temperatures in the upper 40s at race time made for decent running weather. The trails in Newport News Park were in decent condition with some slightly moddy or wet spots.
A record 104 runners entered the 10K (down from the record 165 runners in
2010) with 90 completing the race (down from 145 in 2010). The poor
weather of the previous week may have kept race numbers down.
Results are provided by the Peninsula Track Club. The course, which was
changed slightly this year due to construction on the Dam #1 bridge, was accurately measured, but is not USATF certified. The 10K Run for the
Heart is the 4th race in the 2011 Peninsula Grand Prix Race Series.
